I’m writing this a month after the trip but I had to put it down at some point! Nick and I went to San Francisco and brought me along with him. It was so perfect! I love traveling with Nick and San Francisco is one of my favorite places in the United States! We took off early in the morning and hence arrived in San Francisco early as well.
We got breakfast in the Ferry Building. It was amazing! I had a sandwich with avocado, eggs, bacon, cheese and a tomato- simple but incredible. We walked around San Francisco together until he had to meet up with other board members for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum. We met up at a bar where a local band was playing. Afterwards we went to a Japanese restaurant that had amazing food and desserts!
The next morning I took off early and was harassed by a crazy fool in the train station asking for five dollars. After his cursing I finally told him to get away from me because he was mean and creepy and I didn’t want to give any money to anyone who was that rude. I boarded the train and was off to meet my Aunt Fraggle in Sunnyvale to help her with the last day of school with her kiddos! They were so darn cute! We had an amazing day. Fraggle inspired me to teach when I was in highschool. I loved it! My first year student teaching first grade at Forest View Elementary was the best!!! I fell in love with all of my students and their families. It was a teacher’s dream. The next year in Chicago I taught second grade at Healy Elementary and I had a similar experience. Everyday I came home so happy and excited to tell anyone who would listen all about my students and the funny things they said that day. Not all Chicago schools/administration are created equal though and the next Chicago school I worked at truly made me question what I wanted to do with my life. Spending the day with Fraggle, her staff and students made me fall in love with teaching again and gave me hope.
Fraggle and I took the train back to San Francisco and met Nick for dinner. The next day, Nick drove me to Napa. On the way we stopped at the Golden Gate Bridge. Wow! I didn’t think I would love it as much as I did! Everything about San Francisco is amazing- the cool crisp air, the diverse population, the incredible architecture and landscape from which it was built around and on top of. After our stop at the Golden Gate Bridge we entered a town called Sausalito. The people of Sausalito make their entire front yards into gardens! It’s magnificent and different from anything I’ve ever seen in other parts of the United States. Some of the gardens were composed of succulents, some were wild flowers and some were just completely untamed with assorted flora running rampant.
The Red Woods were next. I was so excited to see these massive ancient giants! It’s always nice to completely surround yourself in the quiet calm of nature.
When we arrived in Napa we walked around the little town and sat on a balcony overlooking all of it.
The next day we went to a little breakfast spot on Nobb Hill where I had the best Mocha ever!
We then drove down the coast where we met Fraggle, her husband Frog (we made these nicknames up when I was little) and their four year old son JP at Half Moon Bay. It was a flash from the past because Fraggle used to take me there when I was younger. I even saw the little ranch where she took my mom and I horse back riding on the beach. After JP (and Nick) got their ice cream we said our goodbyes and continued on to Carmel. I wanted to stay in Carmel. The town was adorable. We left after dinner and caught our red eye flight out of Monterrey.
